sorry for interrupting your discussion but I always wanted to say my opinion about this-your victories and high success were in the past -before the televoting when you were the richest European country and you had huge lobby so it was more than sure that you'll always be in top 3. Not very fair for the other countries :(
now when there is televoting, the results are obvious

you say the days of UK winning are in the past, you may well be correct, just as most countries can kiss goodbye to a victory (Sweden, Ireland, Norway, Monaco etc...) due to the eastern countries. but Finland showed lat year that if you shock enough you can win, just like the UK are trying to do this year.

I say that the British success is due to your lobby when there was jury.

You are not right.Televoting is used since 1998 (or I am wrong)
and the winners were not all ex-communist countries-Israel,Sweden,Turkey,Greece,Denmark,Finland.
also the Eastern countries usually have better songs than the old participants(including Hellas) so they deserve their success.

anyway

in fact you are wrong, televoting was introduced in 1997.

the political argument began in 2001, when it became most visable, each year the votes become more predictable. 50/50 voting is the best choice

Can't you just stop this discussion. It leads nowhere. And all this quoting - it's so boring to open a forum in which there are so many quotes and totally unnecessarily

Televoting has ruined the ESC.
I mean, I can understand when people from Belarus give 12 points to Russia if they sing in Russian, but there is no excuse if it happens this year.
Same thing applies to Greece-Cyprus or Serbia-Croatia-Bosnia-Montenegro.
There should be 50/50 televoting/jury
Sassa, do you really not see anything wrong with The Ark's (singer) outfit ???
And calling someone STUPID IDIOT just because of their opinion is very immature (unless you are 11)
You are right, I don't like Ukraine, Denmark ,or UK entries and I only said that I didn't like Swedish performance and outfit.
The song itself is Ok, probably top 10 in the final.

Don't argue on base Uk-Sweden. Both countries demonstrate musical power in Europe and their entries are sufficient, although UK did not do so well form 2000 and beyond. I certainly liked Niki French and her song "Don't play that song again" and loved Jessica Garlick with "Come back". Good song was "Cry baby" but they didn't sing good though. Both Sweden and UK have been in my top favourites. In 2003 the Swedish entry "Give me your love" was my favourite. In 2000 great song, and again in 2002 and 2004. Carola was great as well. Deserved place, top5. So both UK and Sweden are important in eurovision guys and their songs are needed :)
OFFICER Krystal, oh yeah!!!

Just my quick opinion on Tele-voting. Even if it was 50/50, there would STILL be favoritive voting by the juries.

Second if the tele-voting goes completely, expect the ratings of the contest to drop. Us fans will watch, but the average person that is watching the TV program will lose interest if they cant vote.

Don't forget that by tele-voting, the contest also makes money.

Yeah, but thanks to the tele-voting, ESC is turned on a geopolitical contest. It doesn't matter what is for example the greek song, Cyprus allways will vote for it. And the opposite. That is true for all ex-soviet republics too. And for the republics from ex-Yugosavia. And for the Scandianvian countries, etc.

There is no ideal variant, but I think the votting 50:50 (jury and public) will be better than this. The jury easily can be corrupted, that's true, but very often the public doesn't select the best song, they select their best neighbour, and that's a pity

Have you heard about such thing as national menthalitet? Ex-Yu, ex-SSSR, Scandinavian, Balkan countries are related between themselves by common culture, taste, music tendency, etc. so it's natural that they like each other's songs. Usually nothern countries do not listen to that balkan or latin pop, and balkans do not usually listen to to what nothern countries are used to listen, and so on...That's why the true winner is the one who is able to charm all Europe: from East to West, from North to South.
