Should the west leave ?

Postby pink.sugar on Sun May 13, 2007, 16:08

Should the Western countries just leave and let Eurovision rotten amongst the Eastern countries?
I am really upset because of this system. Eastern Europe dominates Eurovision with 75% of the countries. YOU JUST VOTE FOR EACH OTHER. Best song of this year, Iceland, didn't get one single point from Eastern europe besides the fair Hungarians and our semineighbors from the baltic.

Just because Easterns had better songs this year doesnt mean Westerns should leave. I think the televoting system should be changed to prevent all the neighbour and immigrant votes.

Unfortunately, some people do not know history enough so the judge about all Ex-Soviet countries as they all are the same. Mind that Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia are not even orthodox, they are independent countries, members of EU, with different culture and language. Georgia, Moldova and Armenia are also different countries with different culture. More or less similiar are Belarus, Ukraine and Russia who were joined by the similiar history and culture, but still as all they are independent they can't be considered as one and the same
The common feature joining all these countries is 50 year lasting Soviet Union. So, please mind one :all they are different and don't consider them as one Soviet Union.

The Bulgarian entry was very mediocre.
It may work in the ears of eastern europe, but not for me... it makes my head hurt. Sorry if that offends you.

However, there weren't many good songs this year at all. The western entries were mostly rubbish too, but most of them were much better than entries such as Ukraine and Armenia.

Agree about Ukraine, but don't agree about Armenia: it was the best ballad (of course after Serbia), the burning tree and bleeding heart were amazing.

I don't really think that Ukraine, for example, had a better song than Sweden, it was just more show! Why not divide Europe into 4 pieces, every piece choose 3 songs and compete. 12 songs competes and the only countries aloved to vote are the 12 countries. Get the picture????

As for the semifinal, Portugal would have qualified instead of Moldova and Iceland would have reached the 11th place

The Netherlands would have been a bit higher at 15th place and Andorra a bit lower at 13th place

and countries like Malta and Belgium would have got only 2 points each

and if you're talkin about the final... Armenia would have reached the Top 5... and yet another eastern european, ROMANIA would have reached the Top 10

Well so much for the unification of Europe. Relax everybody!
IMO the Eastern songs are better in general than the Western songs. The Western songs are the schlagers we send for years and the East moved on and likes different songs. Learn from it and just send a good song.

There were some Western songs I liked, but it was obvious that they would not have a great rank in the end. Amongst others Iceland, Ireland, UK, Netherlands and Germany.
