Postby dizzydjc on Sun May 25, 2008, 01:19

Wahey - first time Russia are hosting.

Let's discuss here where it's going to be held, what changes are going to be implemented (if any) and just general discussion. Anyone planning on going?

'I would love to see it being held at Moscow arena!

I'll start digging for visa information,I am delighted S7 and Aer Lingus have both announced they will start flying to Moscow direct from Dublin!

Imagine if they decide to hold it in Vladivostok lol then we'd all be screwed lol :damnfunny

I think problems with visa will be sorted out by that time, just as with football match Manchester-Chelsea in Moscow. I think visas will be cancelled and Eurovision most likely will be held in Olimpijskij Arena :D More info as soon as possible!

I give 99% you won't need any visa to come to Eurovision. They will be cancelled, if we cancelled during football match, there is no doubt they will be cancelled during Eurovision. I don't agree St. Petersburg is better place, it's of course beautiful but not so magnificient as Moscow. The best parties are held there. The only minus can be is that it is the most expensive city in the world! But it is worth it!

The best thing about Russia hosting is that I can go to ESC and say it's for work (I study Russian) St Petersburg would be even better than Moscow IMO, but Moscow is nice too :)

Thats for Russians themselves thought isnt it? for me its dirt cheap! I googled the price of a pint of beer in Russia and it works out at 2 euro for a half litre (Over here that would be six for a pint of beer!) . Hostels are on par with Dublin!

Yes, prices in Moscow are very high. Choosing apartments for rent (I mean flats) is also an options. You of course can find cheaper hotels but they will be further from city centre and I thing nobody wants to travel 2 hours everytime.

Yes, I believe it's a great experience! BTW. if it will be held in Moscow (80%) there will be also great opportunity to participate in 9 May parade 'Den Pobedy' - victory day. It is always a fabulous festival, probably the most important in Russia. So it will be double as good for those who will go to Eurovision in 2009 :D

Yep, I am afraid we don't have any good english-speaking hosts. The one who speaks will definately have horrible russian accent, poor europeans  . I don't want Churikova, she is profesional, but not very pretty. I'd better prefer Alsou and Sergey Lazarev :)

Well, I am going to Russia next year with my mom.
if it's held in Moscow, I think the prices should be lowered a bit.... they have to take in account, that not everybody is rich. ;)

Anyway, I hope I'll meet some of you guys there!

Maybe I'll go next year, if I'm lucky. I've always wanted to go to Moscow some day, and combining that with eurovision could just be more than great. :D

Whether it's going to be held at Luzhniki Stadion: I don't think so..

Luzniki would be too big I think, I'd rather see it being held at Khodynka Arena, with a capacity of 14.000:

To me this looks like the perfect choice for ESC 2009. Not too big like when we held at Parken in 2001, and not too small. :)
