Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing

Postby aletem on Wed Aug 13, 2008, 00:56

The Olympic games are already on. Do you follow the Olympic games? If you do what sports do you follow the most and who are your favourite athletes?

I try to follow handball as much as I can. From the women, I cheer for Russia. From the men, I cheer for Germany and Iceland. So will see how is that going. Basketball, I cheer for Lithuania and USA (duh, they are my neighbours  ). I will like to see an ex-yu country grab the gold medal in waterpolo.

I also follow gymnastics, swimming, shooting, volleyball, archery and I am looking forward for the athletics. Some of my favourite athletes so far:
Michael Phelps - USA (swimming), Go USA!!!
Ljubov Galkina - Russia (shooting)
Elena Isinbajeva - Russia (jumping)
Maria Motola - Mozambique (running 400m), though I don't if she is competing on these Olympics :scratch
Ljudmila Postnova - Russia (handball player)
Novak Djokovic - Serbia (tennis)
Igor Cassina - Italy (gymnastics)
Marit Brevik - Norway (coach of the women handball team), she is not an athlete but I might as well mention her.

That is as much as I can remember, your turn now!
OFFICER Krystal, oh yeah!!!

The games have been brilliant so far, and the opening ceremony was the best thing I have ever seen :D

I watch a lot of the games, and support Britain where I can :P It's nice that we've got 2 golds, 2 silvers and 3 bronzes already :fruits

I've been watching the swimming mostly, where we've got some good placings lately, and I know it's cruel, but I want to see Michael Phelps get a silver

.....
I'm joking, I'm joking! Good luck to him on getting 8 golds  He's up to four now, right?

I don't care that much about the olympics but as always I'm going to cheer for my country!

Poland is going to get a medal in handball and volleyball only, I'm afraid.
And maybe swimming and gymnastics. But that's all :?

Otylia Jędrzejczak is my favourite sportsperson but she failed...

The Irishman Eoin Rhinchish just missed out on a bronze medal in kayaking I think it was, he missed ouot by 0.2 of a second as Togo got their first ever medal in an Olympic games. Our boxers are all through to the last round of sixteen last time I heard and looked and I think one of them has progressed to the semis!

We're really fallin' down. Only 2 silver medals and one bronze medal  It's a big shame for a big country like Turkey. We've got only 68 sporters who participate this year's olympic games. And a big part of them have already eliminated.
There're so many faults but where should we start?

^ exactly my thought about Turkey.
well, older sportsmen who showed stable results finished their career you should wait some time when the new generation will be formed.

as for UKRAINE.

5 gold (athletics, shooting, fencing, archery)
3 silver (weightlifting, athletics, shooting)
6 bronze (judo, diving, cycling, wrestling, weightlifting)

by far :P

3 medals in shooting, 2 medals in athletics, 2 medals in wrestling, 2 medals in weightlifting, 1 in diving, 1 in archery, 1 in fencing, 1 in judo, 1 in cycling.

overall 14 as of the end of Sunday.

Ukrainian triumph in heptathlon is the most awesome thing that I've ever seen in modern Ukrainian sport )))
also awesome results in tennis. Bondarenko sisters are 4th! yay!
They could win Williams sisters. They won the 1st set and when they didn't have enough luck in the second they lost faith. They should work on psychology. They COULD go to the final. ehhh. Nevertheless I'm still happy for them. They are youngest among the best top-10 pairs. They will reach their peak in London. 2012, b*tches

yeah, 10th overall with 14 medals as of the end of Sunday
BBC commentator didn't know that Ukraine is a leader in heptathlon. I mean we have 3 high class sportsmen. Lyudmila Blons'ka is the star of heptathlon. She's famous for a decade!

speaking of ... f*ck Kelly Sotherton. She accused our Lyudmila in dirty deeds with doping which is OBVIOUSLY not true and it was proven officially. Kelly wanted to lay cr*p on the main competitor before Olympic Games and she was so sure that she will get some medal. just like that BBC commentator probably. and I'm really happy that she finished 5th and taht we showed her who's the boss
and btw I predicted that we will take a gold and a bronze. maybe 4th place. lulz... I'm glad that it's #1, #2 and #15 :D
and it's funny that the gold medalist finished last in 800m ... doping, eh?

we earned 2 bronze medals on Monday. woot!

1 Bronze = gymnastics, men, rings = Oleksandr Vorobiov
1 Bronze = athletics, women, discus throw = Olena Antonova

total: 16 medals as of Monday. and we have already passed our plan. LOL. We planned to get 15 medals. it's 6 days till the end and we have 16

+1 silver today in male wrestling :P

5 Gold + 4 Silver + 8 Bronze.

also 2 boxers got to the semi final. That means that we already have 2 bronze medals for sure. Unless they will pass semi-finals so then we would get silver OR gold  hope they will win. gawd, pliz.
17+2 = 19 medals. yay! :P

Sorry to read today's news about Blonska. My dear Shrink, you cannot be sure about anybody, obviously. Blonska was tested positive for steroids and if the second sample is positive again, then she'll be stripped of her medal.

These games were a disaster for some greek athletes too. Imo, all tested positive athletes should be banned not only for a certain period of time but for the rest of their lives. They are a disgrace.

Blons'ka WASN'T disqualified.

it's just rumours. I think this "campaign" was started by British side or by Russians who obvioiusly get bronze in this case and receive high chances in long jump.

use your brains please. Lyuda is not THAT stupid in order to set herself up.
she has already been blamed by Sotherton right before Olympics so even if she planned to use something she had to stop. It caused a lot of attention and it was posted in the press.
so there was no need to use doping on these Games. + after her 1st case it doesn't make any sense because she would be disqualified forever. For ANY sportsman in this situation using doping meds will be useless. Nobody wants such disgrace.

imo somebody REALLY wants to ruin Lyuda's career. 2 Ukrainians on the top means that others would receive a bronze or a silver minimum during the next Olympic cycle. The only way out for them is to set up one of Ukrainians. Lyuda has already had 1 doping case. She's a perfect candidate. This provocation started WAY BEFORE Olympic Games.

Olympic officials didn't make official statement. Ukrainian National Olympic commitee stated "We don't comment rumours".

this rumour was started by one western agency. Even they stated that this info is unofficial.

also it's VERY easy to find anabolic steroids and nobody uses them as a doping these days.
Everything seems very suspicious. If Olympic officials prepare such provocation Ukraine will sue them.
also if she tried steroids then why didn't she beat ANY personal record in Beijing in any discipline, at least in 1 of 7? Why did she completely fail the long jump and sprint? wtf. This is bullshit.
there's no way I'm gonna believe this sick cr*p.
her Beijing result is low for her. She had MUCH higher result on the World championship in Osaka. This current result sucks to be honest. This fairytale about steroids is nothing but lies.

anyway. 1 more silver for us today. Male wresrtling again. 8)
and YAY! for Turkish gold

EDIT: the official statement will be tomorrow (Thursday).
if it will be negative for us we will certainly sue them. Coz if this info has already leaked before official announce then it's obvious attack on our sportsman. Maybe fake even.

as for disqualifying sportsmen forever. I disagree.
for instance our rowing team was left without a medal in Athens just because 1 rower was caught on "doping". "Doping" because it was a substance which you can buy everywhere. She had a flue 1 month (!) ago so she bought meds which you can buy even without a recipe. It was prescribed by the doctor from our national team. Olympic officials added this substanse in the list only 1 week before our sportsman bought it. They found less than 1 mg. of this s*** in her blood. It almost disappeared. This is ordinary anti flue pills, gawd dammed which were taken 1 month ago!
is it fair towards her? NO! she was set up by our doctor which didn't look into updated rules. That doctor was fired. Is it fair to blame the sportsman and say that this is disgrace? HELL NO! It's not sportsman's job - looking in more than 10000 prohibited meds in the list

cr*p. It seems Blons'ka tried steroids. Even our officials hint that it's truth. I refuse to believe still.
in any case Ukrainian Olympic Commitee will send a protest against IOC for violating privacy of our sportsman and the person who leaked that info will be fired probably. I hope so.

I don't think that this is disgrace for our country.
She's an independent sportsman. Her husband trains her, not on our national bases etc. This is her own decision and blaming the whole country would be moronic to say the least.
This is disgrace for a sportsman.

though it's still suspicious how did Kelly Sotherton know? Where did she steal the info?
I still refuse to beieve. I wanna wait till her own words tomorrow.
I will be disappointed if she tried steroids. This is stupid. If she really did it then she should really "thank" her husband. Though he will be disqualified as well, lol. She deserved it. If she didn't do it then it's all f*cked up.

Dobryns'ka trains with totally different people so her result is HER result. She truely deserved her gold.
in any case I don't care about that silver medal. I care about the sportsman. She competed fair after her 1st disqualification and she showed MUCH better results without this s***. This s*** was SO unnecessary & stupid, zomg.
